NEITHER side managed to keep control of the game when Doune Castle went home pointless against Dumbarton Academy FP.

The Castle's Sean Heaver tested the opposition keeper early on with his effort, which in the end was fruitless.

Castle goalie Steven Fotheringham later did well to save a low ball to his right and gathered a deflected close range shot.

In the first half, Heaver did well to cut inside the right wing and curl the ball high towards the corner from 25 yards, but the goalie stretched to palm the ball over the bar.

The teams went to the dressing room for the break with 0 – 0 on the scoreboard.

The only goal came after 54 minutes.

Alan More clipped the heels of an Accies forward as he competed for a loose ball in the box, it was a clear penalty.

The Dumbarton side clinically converted the spot kick, sending the Castle keeper the wrong way to make it 1 – 0.

Doune spurned their best opportunity of the day after 74 minutes.

Heaver once again cut inside and switched the ball back out wide to More.

He cut an inviting ball back to Dylan McGowan at the near post area.

McGowan seemed certain to score, but his side-foot effort went over from eight yards.

Deep into added time, the Castle won a series of free kicks and pushed their defenders forward. Dumbarton's defence stood firm, however, and swept clear each effort before the final whistle blew to signal the end of the match.
