League Cup Milton AFC ....................... 3 East Kilbride YM .............. 1 Milton recorded their first win of the season against a dangerous East Kilbride YM side in the League Cup.

The hosts started brightly and at pace, putting the visitors on the back foot from the word go. After only eight minutes, McInnes, making his first appearance of the season, threaded a great through ball to find Henderson who crossed for Burns to burst the net at the near post.

Somewhat against the run of play, East Kilbride equalised on 12 minutes after Milton were caught ball watching.

Milton began to find their feet and a good one-two in the box between Burns and Cooper resulted in the latter sliding the ball narrowly wide.

The home side regained the lead after some great skill down the left from Matthew Cooper, whose pinpoint cross was turned in from close range by Mitchell.

Paul Lyon, who had stepped up to keep goal for Milton after McLeish was injured in the last match, then made a great save from an East Kilbride midfielder to ensure Milton kept their advantage.

After half time, it appeared that East Kilbride were the team in the ascendancy, putting in a good shift and pressuring Milton all over the pitch.

East Kilbride then forced Paul Lyon into another good save on 83 minutes, but the Milton man stood strong and saved well.

Both teams were keen to get the next goal, but it was Milton who put the game to bed, with Paul Burns sealing the win on 86 minutes for a 3-1 win.

Milton’s next match is a league encounter away to Castlemilk, Saturday 29 August.
