Rangers

Jon McLaughlin – 7

Fine save to deny St Johnstone an opener early doors. Instinctive save from a Olaofe header late on.

James Tavernier – 6

Failed to get forward as much as at the weekend against St Mirren, but an assured defensive performance from the Ibrox skipper.

Connor Goldson – 7

Provided composure at the back for Rangers. Never troubled by Saints throughout the 90 minutes.

Leon Balogun – 5

Looked shaky on the ball and was caused problems by Callum Hendry. Hooked at half-time.

Borna Barisic – 9

Fabulous free-kick to open his account for the season and a superb assist for Ryan Kent. Bombed down the left flank well and kept Conway quiet.

Glenn Kamara – 6

Pretty quiet evening for the central midfielder, but kept the midfield in check and fed the front three on a number of occasions.

Ryan Jack – 7

Solid in the middle and kept Rangers ticking over. Tough in the tackle too.

Joe Aribo – 8

Looked a danger every time he was on the ball and caused the Saints backline a number of problems. Performance topped off with a well-deserved goal.

Ianis Hagi – 6

Linked-up well with Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos. Still to reach the levels of those three though.

Ryan Kent – 8

Once again looking like Rangers’ most affective player in the final third. Glided past the St Johnstone defence with ease throughout.

Alfredo Morelos – 6

Was kept quiet by the St Johnstone backline, but did well to win the free kick for the opener.

Subs

Filip Helander – 3

Good tackle to deny John Robertson a strike at goal late on.

Steven Davis – 4

Slotted into the Rangers midfield and took over from Ryan Jack as the pivot in the middle.

Scott Arfield – 3

Looked eager to get on the ball and eased through the latter stages with the game in the bag.

Cedric Itten – 3

Should have had a penalty late on after being brought down by Callum Booth.

Kemar Roofe – 3

Decent debut appearance, but never looked like scoring in the final minutes.

St Johnstone

Elliott Parish – 5

Flapped at a couple of crosses and was badly positioned for Borna Barisic’s free-kick and Joe Aribo’s headed third from a corner.

Jason Kerr – 5

Heavy tackle on Kent in the second half. Tried his best to start Saints on the attack, but struggled to find the midfield.

Liam Gordon – 5

Lucky to get away with a yellow for a poor tackle on Kemar Roofe. Did well to marshal Alfredo Morelos for the best part.

Jamie McCart – 5

Tough evening for the defender. Tried his best to play out from the back, but had no luck.

Danny McNamara – 6

Had a tough shift up against Ryan Kent, but the youngster stuck at his task well for long spells.

Callum Booth – 4

Lost his man at the front post as Rangers made it three shortly after the break. Struggled to cope with the attacking force of Steven Gerrard’s side.

Ali McCann – 5

Tried to get on the ball and get things moving for Callum Davidson’s team. He will have better outings for the Perth side this season.

Liam Craig – 6

Tireless shift for the experienced midfielder on his 400th outing, but didn’t have a lot of time to put his impression on the game.

David Wotherspoon – 6

Strived to support Hendry in St Johnstone’s attack, but ultimately couldn’t get in behind the Rangers defence.

Craig Conway – 6

Had bright spells but was forced into a defensive shift, which didn’t suit him. Still has work to do on his fitness.

Callum Hendry – 6

Put himself about at the top end of the park, but failed to link the play as Saints looked to break. Big chance early on.

Subs

Shaun Rooney – 2

Introduced for a defensive shift late on.

Tanto Olaofe – 2

Fluffed two chances after coming off the bench.

Scott Tanser – 2

Tried to get forward and put a couple of balls into the box.

John Robertson – 2

Thrown on up top in the dying stages at Ibrox and battled well.
