Bannockburn 7-1 Lochgilphead Red Star

Bannockburn produced a near faultless performance to progress into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

Burn came out the traps fast and were in front inside the first 5 minutes after some neat play down the left wing between captain Harry Bruce and Ross Cavanagh with the latter finding an unmarked Darren Walker at the back post who nodded home. 1-0

Bannockburn doubled their lead shortly after when Steven Knox capitalised on a mistake between goalie and defender wher he nicked in, stole the ball and found the back of the net.

A third for Bannockburn shortly followed and were well in control of the game when a Dave Donaldson corner found new signing Taylor Gordon who reacted quickest to fire the ball high into the net.

Bannockburn were 4-0 up inside the half hour mark when, after beating his marker, Darren Walker crossed in and found Michael Weir who flicked a front post header beyond a helpless Red Star keeper.

Not to be outdone by his brother, Ryan Weir wanted in on the action and shortly made it 5-0 when his run from midfield beat the offside trap and rather coolly slotted home from the edge of the box. Ryan doubled his tally for the day when he reacted quickest to a scramble in the box to make it 6-0

Half time 6-0

After a couple of missed chances early in the second half, Burn made it 7 on the hour mark when Walker played a high diagonal ball over the Lochgilphead defence to find Steven Knox who quite sublimely volleyed home for his second of the day.

Both knox and Ryan Weir could have gotten their hat trick had it not been for some  slack finishing inside the box.

Having hoped to keep a clean sheet, Burn were extremely disappointed to lose a late goal after a mix up at the back was capitalised by the ‘Star no.9 who found the back of the Burn net with a curled finish in to the top corner.

Full time 7-1

Scottish Cup draw will take place on Wednesday, November 8 at Hamden Park.
