Stirling County RFC marked the end of the rugby season with a fun-filled afternoon that attracted the sunshine and crowds to Bridgehaugh Park last Saturday.

Highlight of the afternoon was the Captain’s XV versus President’s XV match, with over 40 current and former players, including guest appearances by representatives from other Caledonia Clubs in ‘Barbarians style’, all taking part in a thoroughly entertaining and at times highly competitive encounter. The Captain’s XV eventually won an entertaining match by ten tries to eight, scoring 64 points against 48.

Before that County veterans from years gone by returning to their old stomping ground to played their part in a ‘Legends’ match, which was drawn three tries each.

The ‘goal-kicking’ competition, sponsored by Jardine Donaldson Solicitors, was won by Jason Hope, who showed exemplary skill in kicking long-range from the left-touchline, who lifted the ‘kicking cup’.

Ross Cameron also picked up the 3rd XV player of the season, presented by Coach Colin Cameron. There was plenty of family entertainment enjoyed by all in the fine weather, including a bouncy castle for the kids and a BBQ. Funds raised on the day were donated to Strathcarron Hospice.

Stirling County President Kevin Robertson said: “This was a fabulous way to end the rugby season at Bridgehaugh, with entertainment of the highest order both on and off the field, with the return of the Captain’s v President’s match proving very popular.

“I would like to thank all the players, officials, sponsors, volunteers and supporters for playing their part in making this a memorable occasion, and we look forward to this event being a permanent end-of-season fixture.

“Particular appreciation to Allan Imrie and Graeme Mair for their organisation of the day, and thanks to all for their generous donations to a most worthwhile local charity – Strathcarron Hospice.”
