A YOUNG Scottish musician has joined forces with pop star Pixie Lott to record a tribute to the NHS.

Ryan MacKenzie, 24, jumped at the chance when the call came in from the chart-topper.

The 24-year-old is currently studying remotely for a Masters’ degree at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

He gave his free time to do some arranging and producing for the song, having been in lockdown at home with his family in Buckie.

The collaboration resulted in a touching cover version of Dionne Warwick classic, That’s What Friends Are For.

Ryan said: “I left my flat in London just before lockdown to visit my folks, not knowing I’d be under house arrest for a while. It’s been great having something creative to work on during this strange time, Pixie and I are both really proud of this.”

He added: “What makes the piece even more special is that we did it as a thank you and a show of gratitude to everyone working so tirelessly and selflessly in our health service.”

Thanks to sophisticated, modern technology, and with a little help from other musical friends, Ryan produced the arrangement from his parents’ house in Buckie with Pixie sending her vocals to him to be mixed into the track.

The song has since been pushed out on Pixie Lott’s social media and both she and Ryan hope it reaches as many people as possible.
