STIRLING man Steven Anderson will taking on his local marathon this May in honour of his granny who died of bowel cancer.

The 36-year-old, from St Ninians, is determined to "make a difference" to the lives of those affected by the condition, having seen its effects for himself.

Not only did he lose his grandmother to the disease, he has also had friends impacted by it as well.

Steven will tackle the Stirling Marathon and will be looking for people to sponsor him, with the proceeds going to Bowel Cancer UK.

He said: "The training has been incredibly hard for the Stirling Marathon but I know it will be so worthwhile. I’m sure my granny will be looking down and will be very proud of my efforts.

"I’d really like to make a difference and anything I can do to raise funds for the life-saving work of Bowel Cancer UK has to be a good thing.”

Emma Macleod, Scotland fundraising manager for Bowel Cancer UK, said: "We are very proud to have Steven running the Stirling Marathon for us, it’s an amazing challenge.

"For us, at Bowel Cancer UK, it means we can continue with our vital work of saving lives, enabling research and improving the quality of life for all those affected by bowel cancer.”

The Stirling Marathon will begin on May 21 at Blair Drummond Safari park, before taking in landmarks such as Doune Castle and the Wallace Monument, before finishing in the city centre under Stirling Castle.

Anyone taking part in the event, who would like to fundraise for Bowel Cancer UK, can get in touch by emailing emma.macleod@bowelcanceruk.org.uk for more information.
