PLANS to slow motorists down in Crossford have driven forward.

Members of the City of Dunfermline area committee backed moves to lower the 30mph speed limit on roads through the village to 20mph.

The national speed limit on the A994 between Crossford and Cairneyhill is also set to be cut to 40mph.

Councillors in South West Fife agreed to the measure for Cairneyhill earlier this month.

Lesley Craig, from the council's traffic management service, explained: "This came forward as part of a motion in February to get us to look at speed limits between Crossford and Cairneyhill.

"I have brought this forward because we are looking at 20mph zones through villages at the moment. This is to ask for your agreement to go forward with the proposal to the statutory consultation."

Speed limits on all residential estate roads in Crossford – excluding the A994 Main Street and Cairneyhill Road, and Waggon Road – were reduced to 20mph in 2010.

The Scottish Government is now working with local authorities to reduce the speed limit in towns, cities and villages to 20mph by the end of 2025, to help make these roads safer for all.

Dunfermline Central councillor, Aude Boubaker-Calder, was pleased to see the proposal come to the table.

"It has been quite a few years that the residents in Crossford have been complaining," she said.

"I think I am quite delighted to see it has come forward. Especially for people living on Cairneyhill Road."
