PORT Glasgow Otters Swim Team recently took part in the West of Scotland Federation 40th Anniversary Jubilee Swimming Gala which was held at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr.

Eighteen members competed against swimmers from the 11 other clubs represented in the 47 events of the competition.

It was a fantastic day where swimmers’ performances were outstanding. They returned home victorious with several new personal bests and an impressive tally of 30 medals – 10 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze.

Tommy McNair won a bronze medal in the 25m backstroke and a silver medal in the 25m freestyle (both class 10).

Aimee Philips won two silver medals in the 25m backstroke (class 8) and 25m freestyle (class 7).

Lindi Steele secured two gold medals in the 25m backstroke (class 8) and 25m freestyle (class 7).

In the 25m backstroke (class 8) and 25m freestyle (class 7) Ruairidh Craynor won two silver medals while Emma Thompson won a bronze medal in the 25m freestyle (class 7).

Mollie Rowles won a gold medal in the 25m freestyle (class 6) and Kian McLean won a silver medal in the 25m backstroke (class 7) and a gold medal in the 25m freestyle (class 6).

Zak Gallacher celebrated winning two golds in the 25m backstroke (class 6) and 25m freestyle (class 4).

Kyle Brotherton won a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke (class 4) and Lee Morrison won gold medal in the 50m freestyle (class 3).

Eve Cushnaghan swam two great races but didn’t medal on this occasion while there was a silver medal in the 50m freestyle (class 2) for Jordan Fitzharris.

Paula Carroll won a gold medal in the 50m freestyle (class 3).

Paige McLean won a silver medal in the 50m backstroke (class 2) and a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle (open).

Ross O’Donnell won a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke (class 1) and there was a double for Aimee Hagan, bronze in the 50m backstroke (class 1) and silver in the 100m freestyle (open).

In the 100m backstroke (open) Isaac Dunning won gold and Richard Browning won silver in the 200m backstroke (open) and gold in the 400m freestyle (open).

At the end of the competition swimmers took part in relay races.

One of the teams consisting of Mollie, Ruairidh, Kian and Zak (Team A) won a bronze medal each in the 4 x 25m freestyle.

Every swimmer was also awarded a pin badge to commemorate the federation’s 40th anniversary.

The club coaches and committee congratulated the swimmers on a fantastic display of sportsmanship and friendship throughout the day.
