A CONCERT is being organised in the Wee County for next year in memory of a young man who was a pillar of Sauchie's community.

Kate Turner is organising a concert in January at Alloa Town Hall in memory of her “little big brother” Calum Turner, who sadly passed away in January at the age of 16.

Calum was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in August 2020 and would go on to spend the next few months in hospital.

On December 23, he was told he had around one week left and he died on January 5, just weeks before his 17th birthday.

Kate is organising the concert in memory of Calum, a music lover, and Clacks bands Nae Danger, The Somethings and Fever will all be performing.

All money raised will go to Young Lives vs Cancer, who had done so much for Kate and her family when Calum was in hospital.

Kate said: “It would have been Calum’s 18th birthday on January 23 so we were trying to work out what to do.

“He loved his singing, loved to perform and I thought it would be a good way to bring people together because it’ll be a hard time for us and the people around us.

“It’ll be a nice way to honour him, celebrate his birthday and raise money for Young Lives.

“There’s not much to look forward to over the next couple of weeks whereas this is something positive.”

The family are keen to do something each year to celebrate Calum and Kate, after coming up with the idea for the concert, said it’s definitely something they would look to repeat if it goes well.

Kate explained how kind and helpful Young Lives were when Calum was in hospital and so it was easy to choose them as recipients of the money raised from the concert.

“When Calum was in hospital, there was someone who worked for Young Lives in there,” Kate said. “They were supporting me and my mum because we weren’t able to visit.

“They would go up and sit with him and have debates with him so it was always nice to know somebody was able to see him and brighten up his day.

“They really are fantastic at what they do.”

The concert will take place at Alloa Town Hall on Saturday, January 22 with a raffle including local prizes also available.

Tickets for the concert cost £10 and can be purchased by calling Kate on 07727 626225 or via her Facebook page.

A fundraising page for Calum has also been set up, with all donations going directly to Young Lives in his memory.
