TRAFFIC down a one-way street in Alloa is to be reversed.

The change on Mill Street in the town centre, relating to its section between Shillinghill and High Street, is to come into force mid-June, it is understood.

It will mean that access to Mill Street will be available via a right turn at the bottom of Drysdale Street.

Meanwhile, the High Street is to be closed to all vehicles from 11am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, Clackmannanshire Council's Roads Department advised town centre residents and businesses in a letter.

The change is coming following a trial road closure of the High Street as part of the Spaces for People initiative, said the letter.

It added that the layby on the west side of High Street will be closed to allow space for pedestrians to safely pass the queues that form on this narrow section while the layby on the east side will be reserved for loading and disabled parking access.

The taxi rank on Drysdale Street is also to be extended, allowing the closure of the taxi rank on Mill Street, which will be changed to 20 minute parking bays and loading bays between 9am and 5pm.

Some minor changes will also be made at the end of Shillinghill and Auld Brig Road – this is to allow buses to access the roundabout more easily.

Overall, the changes are to create a safer environment for shoppers while allowing vehicles access to Mill Street at all times.

The reversal of the one-way system is being put in place in an n Experimental Traffic Regulation Order, which requires no prior consultation.

However, objections can be lodged up to 18months after the order is put in place.
