KT TUNSTALL is set to play PJ Molloys in October this year as part of the Passport: Back to Our Roots campaign.

The Fife-raised singer will perform at the iconic Dunfermline forum in a bid to help live music venues get back on their feet after the pandemic.

Launched last August, the nationwide campaign will see a series of one-off intimate gigs by the UK’s biggest artists, supporting the independent grassroots venues. For a minimum donation to the campaign, music fans were entered into a prize draw to win entry to the show of their choice for themselves and a guest.

Calum Miller, of PJ Molloys, said: “We are absolutely delighted that PJ Molloys is involved in back to our roots gig series. To have an artist like KT Tunstall to choose PJs is an honour; it is sure to be a night to remember.”

Tunstall spoke to The Weekender last year where she extolled the importance of a vibrant music venue in all local communities.

She said: "If you don't have grassroots venues, then you don't have big acts – it's totally as simple as that. Every single great artist in the UK who plays big stages has come through the grassroots network and can name three or four very, very dear small venues who they have played multiple times, that helped them out and supported them when they needed it."

Speaking about the Dunfermline gig, Tunstall added: "It has been so meaningful to me and many others over this last mad year to see such support and love for our grassroots music venues.

"Music lovers and musicians have come together to help protect the future of these small but mighty venues, many of which exist as labours of love, kept alive by blood, sweat, tears and a deep passion for music.

"It was a massive challenge for me getting booked in music venues when I was trying to get somewhere, so a venue like PJ Molloys is essential for aspiring musicians making their way up. Thank you so much to everyone who supported the campaign."

With proceeds going towards both the individual venues and Music Venue Trust’s #SaveOurVenues campaign, Passport: Back to Our Roots raised almost £140k to safeguard the futures of grassroots music venues struggling to survive the COVID-19 crisis.

Now, the Music Venue Trust will look to the future and its #ReviveLive campaign.

Mark Davyd, CEO of Music Venue Trust, said: “We can't emphasise enough how absolutely vital the support of artists has been to the Save Our Venues campaign.

"The artists that stepped forward to support the Passport Back to our Roots project not only provided an incredible opportunity for fans to see them in intimate surroundings, they provided a real focus of attention for audiences on what they could do to help their local venue survive.

"We are delighted that Passports shows are being announced as part of the campaign to #ReviveLive and can't wait to see some of these fantastic events take place."

KT Tunstall will play PJ Molloys, Dunfermline, on October 21, 2021.
