A MOTHER and daughter duo have teamed up to run a total of 310km, raising funds to help people access free debt help.

Helen Laing and her daughter Sarah have been running 5km a day since the start of March to support the work of the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre in the Forth Valley.

The debt centre, which offers its support through the food larder at Tillicoultry Baptist Church Annex in the Wee County, has been looking to make sure people are not locked into poverty.

Fiona Welsh, Forth Valley CAP debt centre manager, said: "We're thrilled that Helen and Sarah chose to support our debt centre in this way.

"It's quite a commitment to run 5km every day for a whole month.

"We know that so many people have taken a financial hit with loss of or reduced income during the pandemic.

"Our team is here to help with debt problems through our CAP debt help service and because we're local we can also support clients practically too."

Helen and Sarah have raised nearly £1,700 by the time of writing through their JustGiving page online.

The money will support the effort to help clients with practical things such as linking up with food banks, arranging emergency fuel top ups, encouragement and a friendly voice at the end of a phone.
