As many as 60 prison escort staff are waiting for coronavirus test results after three workers reportedly tested positive.

Dozens of staff members from the escort firm GEOAmey tested are self isolating, the Scottish Sun reports.

Centres at Bellshill, Lanarkshire, and Grangemouth, Stirlingshire  were closed for deep cleans.

It is understood up to 67 people are quarantining for 14 days.

Any vehicles used have also undergone deep cleans.

A spokesman for GEOAmey said: "The welfare of our employees is our main priority, therefore those affected are isolating at home, and as a precaution, a number of colleagues who may have been in close proximity to those affected have been instructed to self-isolate.

"We have a robust Coronavirus response procedure in place which was implemented immediately, and we contacted the relevant local health authorities and are following their guidance.  Those affected are being advised through the NHS Track and Trace system.

“Both locations, together with a number of vehicles, have received a deep chemical clean and sanitisation using specialist equipment.

“GEOAmey is continuing to deliver its vital work to support the justice sector in Scotland and have robust procedures in place to deal with anticipated staff absence throughout the pandemic period.”
