STIRLING Council has resumed its special uplift service for residents.

Members of the public will be able to request an uplift of bulky items of household waste online or by calling 01786 404040.

If a resident makes a request via the form on the website, they will receive a call back within 48 hours to confirm the collection date and to make payment.

The service had been suspended in March due to the introduction of the Scottish and UK Government’s Covid-19 restrictions, and its resumption means all waste services, including tips and household collections, have now been fully reinstated following the lockdown.

Cllr Jim Thomson, Convener of Stirling Council’s Environment and Housing Committee, said: “I am pleased the Council is now in a position to resume this important service, which will comply with Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance.

“Although all of our tips have reopened following lockdown, I know some people may have been waiting to have bulky items uplifted and would ask that the public remain patient as the service starts taking bookings again.”

The service will operate Monday to Friday, and all booked items should be presented on the kerbside outside the property by 7am on collection day. Waste crews will not enter a property to collect items.

A standard bulky uplift (up to five household items, or six if one is a fridge) costs £44.70. Further details on items that can be uplifted, concessions and other key information can be found on the council website.

Vice Convener, Danny Gibson said: “A lot of hard work has gone on to restart the special uplift service, with necessary safety procedures in place to protect staff and the public as Coronavirus remains a serious threat.

“We are anticipating high demand for the service initially so please bear with us as it gets up and running again and remember there are other options for householders to dispose of large items, including at our tips free of charge.”

If a member of someone's household has Covid-19 symptoms, a request for an uplift should not be made. Households must wait 72 hours after a household is clear from isolating prior to making a request.

If someone has requested an uplift and they, or anyone within their household develop Covid-19 symptoms, telephone 01786 404040 to rearrange a request.
