LEAVING BORDEAUX have returned in some style as they unveiled their latest single last week.

The Glasgow-based quintet released their blistering new track Adrenaline, following up on last year's debut track Caught Out Cold.

Though the UK-wide lockdown may well have scuppered a launch night, the band are beginning to pick up some speed. Indeed, the second single was written in a fraction of the time they would normally devote to it. That fast-paced environment lends itself nicely to the fairly frantic nature of the song.

Singer and guitarist Jamie McAuley admits he was taken by surprise at the song's inception, as he and his bandmates rattled through the process.

He tells The Weekender: "Within about half an hour, the whole song was finished. And it's unchanged since. What you hear on the single is, basically, what happened in that half an hour.

"It was probably the fastest we have put a song together. We wondered if we were doing something wrong, because it just came together so easily.

"It's full of high-energy," he adds. "As we were writing it, we noticed it had a high tempo which was something we absolutely love about it.

"The main thing is that when people listen to it then they want to get up and move around. And that's what we want at shows; when we play live we are really quite energetic and that song captures that a little bit."

Adrenaline has been live since Wednesday last week and has already picked up its fair share of streams online. A music video is also set to follow in the near future.

Though it possesses a relatively upbeat feel, the song edges into darker territory with its lyrical content. The listener gets a glimpse into the mind of someone dealing with uncontrollable urges, amid the throes of addiction.

McAuley says: "Lyrics are about someone being dependent on certain things – and the release these things give that person, which ties into that Adrenaline feeling. It's a note to themselves and as the song progresses, we see it all play out."

"The reaction has been really good so far," the singer continues. "One person told me that they found themselves dancing around their living room listening to it. We don't really know that person too well and it was such a nice thing to hear.

"We're just deciding what is next at the minute. We had a few gigs we had to postpone. Summer was looking to be a good time for us; it's sad but we all have to deal with it.

"We all really cannot wait to get back out and start playing again. Especially, with the release of a new single – it will be great to get that played for the first time."
