THE Real Food Café in Tyndrum has been named Best Informal Eating Experience at the prestigious Scottish Thistle Awards.

Held on March 5 at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, the event attracted 470 attendees and saw 18 individuals, businesses and events honoured for their contribution to the tourism sector.

The Real Food Café’s award celebrates quality Scottish food and hospitality in an informal setting.

Staff at the eatery are passionate about providing an accessible environment for everyone to enjoy affordable and tasty food.

Situated on the A82 and West Highland Way, it provides a welcoming rest and refuelling stop for many thousands of tourists and travellers, their families and pets all year round.

Judges praised the café for their vision for the future, as well as their emphasis on local suppliers, commitment to sustainability and investment in staff.

On receiving the award, Sarah Heward, one of the founders, said: ''Scottish informal dining has undergone a revolution in recent years particularly in the areas of provenance and sustainability.

“This category plays a crucial part in Scottish Tourism by providing visitors with locally sourced food and warm hospitality that is both great quality and affordable.

“We’re honoured to be national winners’’
