STIRLING’S Riverside FC Powerchair Football team were celebrating success at the recent SPFA National Awards ceremony at Glasgow's Hampden Park this week.

Team player Scott McIntyre won "Breakthrough Player of the Year" and was presented with his award from former Scotland national team manager Craig Brown.

Riverside FC Powerchair football team were formed in 2018 and have rapidly progressed thanks to weekly coaching sessions.

Ian Anderson, the team’s coach, said: "It has been a pleasure to coach the team over the past year and I have witnessed the development of the team during this period. 

“I would also like to thank Active Stirling, Scottish Disability Sport and Scottish FA for their valued continued support."

Scott Kinross, SFA football development officer for Active Stirling, said: “It has been really encouraging to see the team grow over the past year, the players’ attendance at training and matches has been excellent, and they all support each other well and give 100% effort throughout. 

“It was fantastic news to hear that Scott won this award recently and this is fully deserved as he has a fantastic attitude and enthusiasm for the game. 

“I would also like to thank the coaches Ian and Russell for their continued commitment to the team and the rapport they have with the players is excellent. 

“Finally, the support of the players’ parents has also been really encouraging, and I am sure the team will go on to further success in the future.”
