A HUGELY-popular West End pub could be in line for a makeover if given the go-ahead by the council.

The Grove, on Kelvingrove Street, is looking to redecorate the outside of the dated venue.

At the heart of the Finnieston community since 1988, the Category B listed building falls within the St Vincent Conservation Area.

Located close to Argyle Street, mid-way between the SEC Centre and Kelvingrove Park, The Grove is a go-to hangout spot for both locals and visitors.

An application put forward on behalf of owners Greene King has also nodded to “a forthcoming internal refurbishment.”

The ground floor level properties are in the form of typical shop front units, with a mixture of different units, styles and colours.

The Grove premises frontage has a coursed brickwork finish, painted timber casement window and painted timber doors and frames.

There is traditional coursed stonewalling to the upper floor Levels, typical of the buildings on Kelvingrove Street and Argyle Street.

The timber-framed sash windows to the upper floors are painted white.

A statement from planners says: “As part of a forthcoming internal refurbishment of the premises to further improve the facilities offered to its customers, the external faces of the building are to be redecorated.

“The colours chosen for this redecoration work are sympathetic to the buildings prominent position on Kelvingrove Street and will be in keeping with the setting and style of the building. The colours chosen also represent the corporate identity of Greene King plc premises throughout the United Kingdom.”

“The redecoration works will be concerned with the exterior elements at ground floor level only. The building's upper-level stonewalling will remain unaffected and the existing sash windows to the upper floors will remain a white colour,” adds the planners' statement.

The plans are currently under consideration.
