THE main swimming pool at The PEAK will re-open to the public at the beginning of next month following the completion of essential repairs.

Active Stirling and Stirling Council announced the temporary closure of the pool last year (November 2018) after the discovery of a problem with the base screed layer.

Water has now been pumped back into the pool and final preparations are underway for the return of customers at 7am on Saturday, June 1.

As a goodwill gesture, free public swimming will be available to everyone using the pool over the weekend (June 1-2).

These sessions will be on for two hours and will operate on a first come, first served basis.

Emails and letters have been issued to Learn to Swim customers informing them lessons will resume at The PEAK from Monday, 3 June.

Work on the teaching pool, where a similar problem with the screed was uncovered, is also progressing well, with tiling close to completion.

The teaching pool is expected to re-open in July once a new movable floor has been installed. This was due for renewal in two years, but the council made the decision to bring the investment forward to avoid an extended closure in the future.

Andrew Bain, chief executive at Active Stirling, said: “We are pleased to confirm that the main pool at The PEAK will reopen on Saturday, June 1, with free swimming for everyone all weekend, and we look forward to welcoming all of our customers back.

“I would like to thank all of our customers, employees and partners for their support and understanding during what has been a most challenging time for us, in particular our members and learn to swim customers who have accommodated the swim options at other facilities across Stirling during this unanticipated long term disruption to the services we provide.”

Brian Roberts, senior infrastructure manager at Stirling Council, said: “I am sure this announcement will come as welcome news for all users of the swimming pool, who can now look forward to accessing this fantastic community facility once again.

“We would like to thank all PEAK customers and users for their patience and understanding during this period of unforeseen disruption – it has been hugely appreciated.

“I can assure them that the work has been completed to the highest standard, ensuring the pool is fit for purpose in the long term, and our full focus is now on completing the new movable floor in the teaching pool and re-opening it as soon as possible.”
