THE Tullibody Community Development Trust has announced that it has surpassed the money they need to fix the civic centre roof.

The group was looking to raise £1,000 which would have been matched the total from the Tabhair Trust.

However, it was announced last week that they have amassed almost double what they needed.

Janette McGowan, chair of the trust, told the Advertiser: “Since the trust took over the running of the centre, the sports hall has been out of bounds due to the leak in the roof.

“Now the trust has the funding in place, the council will need to approve the repair work to be carried out before the trust can apply for the licence to occupy it.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity by our community. Our original aim was to raise £1,000 and hope that we would gain the match funding from the Tabhair Trust, but we nearly doubled our target.

“This support shows that our community really wants our community centre to thrive and grow. We thank everyone who was able to contribute.”

Last week, the trust also learned they had been awarded £4,500 from the Big Lottery Awards for All.

This will enable them to fund professional support to complete their business plan and final feasibility study before we go forward with a Stage Two application to the Scottish Land Fund in the hope of securing funds for a community buy out of the civic centre.
