STIRLING'S MP has welcomed news that settled status for EU citizens will be provided free of charge to the 2500 EU citizens living in the Stirling constituency.

The government's white paper originally proposed a fee of up to £65 per adult and £35 per child for EU citizens to register for settled status, giving them the right to live permanently in the UK and providing the opportunity of UK citizenship.

In her update to the House on Leaving the European Union, the Prime Minister announced that there would be no charges for any application for settled status.

She also confirmed that anyone who had already paid would be refunded.

Stephen Kerr, MP for Stirling, said: “Stirling is home to over 2500 EU citizens, who make a great contribution to our society and our economy.

"They are our neighbours, friends, family, and work colleagues.

"This decision is the right one and reinforces that they are all an integral part of our country and are very welcome to stay here in these islands that they have made their home.”
