PROPOSED cuts to Wee County bus services will hit the most vulnerable residents, council officers have been warned.

Clackmannanshire Council's budget options include a potential cut to funding of the C1 and C2 routes.

Currently the C1 serves Alloa and Sauchie while the C2 runs through Glenochil, Tullibody, Cambus, Alloa, Sauchie, Fishcross, Devon Village and Tillicoultry.

According to Damian Sherwood-Johnson, chair of the Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton and Devonside Community Council, it is the most vulnerable who will feel the effects.

He said: "We are concerned how this proposal may disproportionately disadvantage vulnerable members of our community who are dependent upon public transport.

"It is disappointing to have to deal with more changes to bus services after the recent alterations to the 60/62/63 service. Public transport can be for some the only way to go about their daily lives.

"We strongly urge everyone to fill in the online survey and make their views known. The Community Council will play its part to coordinate responses to the budget document and ensure that all views are represented in this critical conversation."

Cameron Little, head of transport for Alloa Community Council echoed those thoughts and urged the public to voice their concerns.

He added: "The council cuts are on the agenda for the next meeting of the community council and they are hoping to organise a consultation with the public just as they had last year.

"It would be good if we can get the opinions of the wider public who are going to be affected by the cuts."

A spokesperson for Clackmannanshire Council said: “No decisions have yet been taken. These are officer options which will be part of budget consultation, which will then inform the decision making of councillors at the budget meeting.

“If these options are agreed, they will then move to a statutory consultation process before any final decisions are taken.”
