A YOUNG Stirling figure skater was one of only 10 to win a place at the Disney on Ice workshop in Newcastle this month.

Stirling New Figure Skating Club’s Nieve Deans, 10, was at the Metro Arena earlier in October following a competition.

The youngster was required to audition with a video, which included a performance of her competition programme.

She had the chance to experience what it’s like to skate for Disney with the Dream Big production team and said it was “magical”.

Nieve was partnered with cast member Paul with whom she worked on her axel and double flip before trying some pair lifts on ice.

As part of her prize, she also received tickets to a performance of Dream Big for herself and her family.

Nieve said: “The Disney on Ice workshop was a magical experience.

“I was partnered with a professional Disney on Ice skater. He gave me tips on improving my jumps and spins.

“I even got to try pairs lifts, which was really exciting as I'd never done them before.

“I'd really like to be a Disney on Ice skater when I'm older.”

Rhiannon Scott, Nieve’s coach and Active Stirling skating co-ordinator, added: “I have coached Nieve since she began her skating journey from our Active Stirling learn to skate classes through to her current success as a Stirling New Figure Skating Club member.

“It is great to see her being rewarded for her hard work.”
