AN “AMBITIOUS” campaign to increase broadband speeds in Stirling has received the backing of the local MP.

MP Stephen Kerr met CityFibre, which is pushing for fibre-to-premises broadband instead of fibre-to-cabinet which relies on using copper wires to the premises.

An expansion to full fibre would mean Stirling residents could access gigabit-speed broadband with speeds up to 1,000 Mbps.

The elected representative said: “CityFibre have some ambitious plans to develop Stirling into a superfast tech hub and I wish them every success.

“This will help generate and secure jobs across the city area.

“However, I want to see all Stirling’s communities benefit from having superfast connections.

“The Scottish Government’s programme has always promised this will be done by the end of 2021. I have serious doubts that target will be met so I want to see all other options investigated urgently.”
