STIRLING’S Doors Open Days takes place in the city and throughout the Stirling area this weekend (Sept 14 – 16) giving visitors the chance to find out more about Stirling’s past, present and future – all for free.

Focusing on local history, as well as the modern built infrastructure of the area, Doors Open Day peels back the curtain on some of Stirling’s most famous buildings and landmarks.

Some of the main attractions for this year’s festival includes Blair Drummond House, which is run by the Camphill Trust. The House acts as a home-from-home environment providing residential care, meaningful activities and friendship for people with learning disabilities in a unique family setting.

Visitors have the chance to look around the house or join one of the regular guided tours of the house and grounds. Children and families can also enjoy the new activity trail and flying fox on the grounds.

Category A-listed Bannockburn House is also opening its doors, giving visitors the chance to see this famous landmark which has survived largely unchanged since the 17th century.

A dedicated group of volunteers is now breathing new life into the house and grounds with the aim of creating a community hub providing a range of activities and resources to benefit future generations. Booking for this special location are essential with tours available.

The Stirling Observatory, St Columba’s Church, Old Auchentroig and the Engine Shed are also among the list of fascinating buildings open this weekend, ensuring visitors will be able to gain an insight into all Stirling has to offer.

Stirling Council Provost, Christine Simpson, said: “Doors Open Days is a great chance for both locals and visitors to get a rare view inside some of the Stirling area’s most interesting buildings, as well as to enjoy a lot of fun and the free events taking place around them.

“Stirling’s history has made the area famous but there is so much more on offer beneath the surface. There are Category A-listed buildings, public service buildings like the Fire Station, or historic churches that attract visitors all year round.

“With so many options to choose from there really should be something for everyone.”
