STIRLING store Wilkies is set to close its doors for the last time in October after 15 years of trading - with nine jobs going in the process.

The family-run shop, based on King Street, claimed it faced high running costs and an oversized premises when explaining why it was closing.

Karen Forret, Owner and Managing Director, said: “The decision to close our Stirling store has not been taken lightly and we are deeply saddened to be leaving the premises at 44 King Street.

"I would like to thank our wonderful staff for all their hard work over the years, we have a fabulous team in Stirling and my thoughts are with them at this difficult time, we will look to offer roles where we have them in other stores."

Over £500,000 worth of fashion, footwear, kitchenware and linens stock will be available for sale before the Stirling branch closes on Wednesday, October 17.

Wilkies has shops across Scotland, and confirmed it has no plans to shut any other stores.
