THE commitment of a Stirling based home care worker was recognised recently when she received a national award.

Karen Marshall, of Carewatch Stirling, was presented with a Scottish Care award for her dedication to vulnerable customers in the wider Stirling and Falkirk area.

The competition was fierce in the Care at Home Services Carer of the Year category, but going above and beyond the normal call of duty to ensure customers’ safety, comfort and independence yielded rewards for the woman.

She said: “I am delighted to win this award and would like to thank my fellow staff members at Carewatch Stirling for their support and encouragement.

“The job is hugely rewarding and sometimes very challenging, so it is great to get this recognition.”

Karen joined the team two years ago this month and earlier in 2018 when the Beast from the East covered the country in a blanket of snow, she voluntarily stayed with a vulnerable service user for three days in a remote area, receiving a ride from the police who were the only ones able to reach the property.

Rhona Ettritch, regional operations director at Carewatch, added: “Karen is a very committed and dedicated member of our team and is a deserved winner of this award.

“We always emphasise hiring highly capable staff and Karen epitomises the attributes and values we treasure.”
