A CARE WORKER from Carewatch Stirling has received recognition.

Karen Marshall won the Care at Home Services Carer of the Year at the recent Scottish Care Awards 2018.

She received her award at a prestigious evening ceremony at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow, hosted by Michelle McManus and attended by over 300 people.

The annual event celebrates the tremendous work undertaken by organisations and staff who work in Scotland’s Care at Home and Housing Support sector.

Karen was delighted to have been recognised and said: “I am very surprised but thrilled and honoured to be chosen as a winner in these prestigious awards.”

She was nominated by Carewatch Stirling manager Diane Hearns, who said: “Since June 2016 Karen has enabled a service user to remain living at home with her husband, providing overnight care for at least five out of seven nights each week, allowing the lady’s husband some well-deserved rest enabling him to be main caregiver during the day.

"Had this service not been provided the lady would have had to move into residential care.

“Unfortunately due to recent severe decline in health the lady was admitted to a care home. Reliable and hardworking, compassionate and patient, Karen is a deserving nominee.”

Karen is now supporting another service user.

The awards have been hailed a huge success in recognising individuals, teams and companies, who are delivering care at an incredibly high standard in an era of challenging budgets and within an increasingly demanding work environment.
