A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a schoolgirl in Bannockburn.

Police increased patrols in the area after the 13-year-old said she had been attacked in Ladywell Park last weekend.

Detectives initially appealed for help in tracing another man wearing a hooded top, but they said he has been eliminated from their investigation.

It is understood that a report will be submitted to the Children's Reporter.

Police say the assault took place between 6.30pm and 7pm last Saturday, Feb 10, but was only reported to officers on Thursday.

On Friday, detective chief inspector Gary Boyd, of the public protection unit in Stirling, said: “This has been an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the victim and we are continuing to provide her with all the necessary support and assistance she requires while we progress this investigation."

Inquiries remain ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Stirling Police Office on 101, quoting the incident number 1065 of February 15.
