FORTH Valley Weightlifting Club has received funding from ClubSport Stirling to help increase female participation in the sport within the region.

It has been given £460.80 for its initiative which is in line with the "Sport for Change" agenda, offering more opportunities for woman and girls to get involved in an activity which may not be as accessible.

The funding will allow the club to purchase equipment relevant to female participation, which can also be used for juniors, and will allow it to accommodate an increase in membership.

Currently members train at a few venues in Stirling, at MXP Performance Gym and Stirling University, and Falkirk.

Allen Gibson, club development officer with Active Stirling, said: “The club are now in their second female recruitment initiative after a very successful first push last year.

"The club are very accommodating with first class coaches and facilities.

"With this funding they can now look to increase membership and allow more females to take part and enjoy the benefits of weightlifting.

"We will now look to promote the club and hopefully attract some new faces to the friendly group.”

The club will be looking to recruit anyone who perhaps has in interest in weightlifting or would see value in the many positive outcomes strength and conditioning can have on the body.
