Bicicle firm nextbike is encourgaging its customers to get moving and embrace the outdoors this month as a way of keeping healthy and active during the winter.

The #optnextbike campaign is an initative to get the residents of Glasgow reaping the benefits of spending time in the great outdoors and incorporating activity into their daily lives.

In conjunction with the scheme, the firm is offering one 2-hours free cycling voucher to each customer who photographs themselves embracing the cooler temperatures and shares it using the hashtag #optnextbike before March 21.

MD of nextbike UK, Krysia Solheim, truly believes that cycling can be an all-weather activity: “Although the weather is colder, there’s no hiding the huge health, financial and environmental benefits that cycling offers individuals."

"So many people want to improve their health and fitness but can’t afford the gym budget and that’s where nextbike comes in. And as they say, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing choices!”

The #OptNextBike campaign has stemmed from the firm’s desire to encourage individuals to try something new as the public’s attitude switches towards health and wellbeing.

Last year’s figures have shown that there were an impressive 238,396 rentals in the winter months (December - March) with more than 405,000km travelled and nextbike aims to exceed this for 2020.

To encourage people to carry on cycling, nextbike has also compiled a set of five top tips to ensure people make the most of the great outdoors this winter:

Be prepared for all weather

In the UK, the weather can be unpredictable so it’s good to be prepared. Gloves and a hat are perfect for keeping the cold out and proper footwear is essential to ensure you can get the most out of your ride. Thin layers will also help regulate your body temperature better and they’re easier to lose if you’re working up a sweat!

Take some time to enjoy nature

Even when it’s cold, there’s still things to see. Unleash your inner photographer and capture it all, or just ride through your local park and relax. And don’t forget to tag us so we can share on Social Media!

Be seen

If you’re riding in the dark, it’s essential to wear reflective gear so you are seen by others. Armbands and jackets are a great way to make sure you and others around you are safe on the roads.

Go with a friend

Cycling is an excellent group activity so why not call your friends and go for a ride together? This not only keeps you motivated but allows you to catch up with those people you might not see that much.

Embrace the winter

Take the winter weather - and everything it brings - in your stride. Be prepared to get mucky, be prepared to get cold and just have fun with it!
