Hot read: A Dark Lure by Loreth Anne White; Twelve years ago, Sarah Baker was abducted by the Watt Lake Killer and sexually assaulted for months before managing to escape. The killer was caught, but Sarah lost everything: her marriage, her child, and the life she loved. Struggling with PTSD, Sarah changes her name to Olivia West and finds sanctuary working on Broken Bar Ranch. But as her scars finally begin to heal, a cop involved with her horrific case remains convinced the Watt Lake Killer is still out there. He sets a lure for the murderer, and a fresh body is discovered. Now Olivia must face the impossible—could the butcher be back, this time to finish the job? As a frigid winter isolates the ranch, only one person can help Olivia: Cole McDonough, a writer, adventurer, and ranch heir who stirs long-dormant feelings in her. But this time, Olivia’s determination to shut out her past may destroy more than her chance at love. It could cost her her life.

The X Factor: Last week it was announced that Rita Ora and Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw have been added to The X Factor’s judging panel.

Ora - who was a coach on BBC’s The Voice UK - previously appeared on X Factor as a guest judge.

Grimshaw - who hosts the radio station’s Breakfast Show - previously fronted T4.

Personally, I’m excited about the new panel. Ora and Grimshaw are mates, so they’re going to have a ball.

Back in the day when I worked for D.C. Thomson, I would listen to Grimshaw on my way to Dundee in the mornings. I really enjoyed his patter and he seems like a genuine bloke.

Whether he’ll be able to spot and lead a winning act all the way to the final is another thing though.

The dynamic duo will join fellow judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, and hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs.

This new season will also see the auditions move out of the rooms and straight into the arenas from the first round, with other changes planned.

Ghostbusters: Pictures from the set of Ghostbusters have leaked online and we’ve been given a sneak peak of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon in action.

According to the The Boston Herald: “Wiig and McCarthy play a pair of unheralded authors who write a book positing that ghosts are real. Flash forward a few years and Wiig lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. Wiig reunites with McCarthy and the other two proton pack-packing phantom wranglers, and she gets some sweet revenge when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and her team have to save the world.” Alongside the funnywomen, Thor himself - Chris Hemsworth - will appear as the Ghostbusters’ receptionist.

Ghostbusters is scheduled for release in the States on 22 July 2016.

Aaron Paul: Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul will star in Zack Whedon’s Come And Find Me. A 2012 Black List script, the film follows David (Paul) as he tracks down his missing girlfriend after realizing she is not who she says she is. Zack, who is Avengers director Joss Whedon’s brother, wrote the script and will direct. Production begins next month in Vancouver.

Captain Cool: Tom Hanks is in negotiations to portray Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger in a film based on a true-life event called ‘Miracle on the Hudson’.

In January 2009, Sullenberger and his crew had just taken off from LaGuardia Airport when both engines were knocked out by a flock of geese. The veteran pilot quickly realized there was no time to return to LaGuardia or reach another airport, so he made the decision to attempt a water landing on the Hudson. The plan worked, and all 155 people on board survived. He instantaneously achieved hero status and was dubbed “Captain Cool” by then-New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Clint Eastwood - who’s directing - wants to start shooting in September.

Fallout 4: As I reported last week, Bethesda will release Fallout 4 on 10 November this year.

Following their E3 press conference, here’s what we know; *The game is set in Boston.

*As with Fallout 3 and New Vegas, you can design your own character and play as a man or a woman. At the beginning of the game you design your parents, to which a baby (you) is generated based on the couple you make.

*The game starts before the nuclear apocalypse. As the nukes fall you and your family make it to the bomb shelter (Vault 111), emerging 200 years later as the sole survivors.

*Bethesda is offering “an enormous dynamic world”, where you can go wherever, do whatever and be whatever you want to be.

*You can play in first or third person.

*You get a dog companion and can give him commands.

*The VATS combat targeting system will return, allowing you to shoot individual body parts for a more direct hit and increased damage.

*If you pre-order the limited edition ‘Pip Boy’ version of the game. You can put your smartphone inside an actual Pip Boy to utilise an app that puts the Fallout 4 Pip Boy experience on your wrist. The app will be available as a second screen experience for Android and iOS even if you don’t fork out for the limited edition version.

*You can scrap all items in the world for materials, allowing you to rebuild as you choose. You can build your own home and settlements, and deck it out with power grids, defence systems and furniture. As you build your settlement, traders will start arriving to populate it. These traders can offer unique and useful items that make it beneficial to start creating your wasteland empire. Watch out for the raiders though.

*There will be over 50 base weapons and over 700 modifications.

*You can modify your own power armour.

Fallout 4 is shaping up to be the best game of the year. I’m disappointed it’s not online/two-player as I would loved to have played this with my pals. However, its offerings are plentiful and I can see myself holed up with this for the next decade. I’ve already booked my week off work to coincide with its launch. I’m genuinely surprised I’m not single.

Mass Effect: The fourth title in the game’s series was announced at EA’s E3 press conference.

The explosive trailer features a new hero (no Commander Shepard), what looks to be an endless galaxy, a jet pack (yes, a jet pack) and action scenes with impending killer combat.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will blast onto next-gen consoles ‘Holiday 2016’. Nicely done, Bioware. Are we talking Easter, summer or the October holidays?

With Fallout 4 and Mass Effect: Andromeda announced, there’s the rest of my 12 months tied up.

I told my other-half that if they release Project Morpheus - the virtual reality headset - in time for Mass Effect and it’s compatible, I’ll probably die with excitement.

Final Fantasy VII: During Sony’s E3 press conference, the studio showcased the trailer to their Final Fantasy VII remake. This upcoming PS4 RPG will be an entirely new game, not a remaster.

Back in the day I was a Nintendo loyal all because of The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past (and Secret of Mana). However, one Christmas my mum bought me a Playstation with Final Fantasy VII and I never looked back.

I’m excited about this remake, but I’ve been spoiled by the likes of Fallout, Dragon Age and Mass Effect where I can not only design a female character, but I can also decide whether to be good or a rogue and change the outcome of the game.

Unless developers Square Enix give me that same kind of control with the new FFVII, it’s not going to float my boat.

I will play it - and I will probably like it - but I won’t love it.
