Stirling Albion have sealed their fifth signing of the summer with the arrival of Mark Staunton from Irvine Meadow.

The defender joing Ross McMillan, Sean Dickson, Chris Smith and Jon Paul McGovern in making the switch to Forthbank.

Manager Stuart McLaren was delighted to have Staunton on board as he looks to guide the Binos to an instant return to League One.

He told Stirling News Sport: “One of Mark’s attributes is that, for somebody who’s not immediately a physically imposing figure, he’s got great ability in the air. He’s a smaller centre half who thrives on the challenge of physicality when he’s matched up against bigger, stronger strikers. He is also a great reader of the game, he’s a great talker, and he is also very comfortable in possession. He fits in with the type of defender we want to have at the club and he complements the other guys very well. Mark will obviously challenge them for a place in the starting line-up.

“He is still a good age at 26, and although he has been playing junior football recently, he does bring good experience from the senior game having played at Stranraer and Falkirk as well as with Charlton Athletic early on in his career. So we’re really pleased to get Mark on board.” McLaren revealed he would like to bring more new faces into his squad ahead of the new season.

He added: “I think that to get to a position where I’d be comfortable we’ll have two additions to make before the new season starts. We are in the process of speaking to a few different players at the moment, and although it’s not a case of being desperate to fill positions immediately, it would be brilliant if we could do that with the right players.

“If getting the right players in takes us a little bit of time then so be it. If we can add two more then I think I’ll be happy with the balance of the squad and the depth that we would have as well.”
