Stirling Albion striker Lewis Coult still believes the club can stay in League One despite sitting nine points adrift at the bottom of the division following the 4-1 loss to Ayr United last weekend, writes Jamie Hall.

The 26-year-old is desperate to do everything he can to keep the Binos in the division, but made clear his desire to stay at Forthbank – even if the Binos go down.

Coult told Stirling News sport: “I want this club to be in this division. If it takes us next year to get back then I’ll be here, but we only need to take one game at a time. As soon as we get that first win at home off our backs we can maybe kick on.

“It’s going to take a big lift this week in training, but we’re all in this together. We’ve put ourselves in this position. I’ll be in there making sure everybody is working and ready to go again. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves. We’re professionals paid by the club and we’re here to do a professional job. It [defeat to Ayr] is a hard one to take, but we’re not throwing in the towel.” The former Cowdenbeath hitman was left to rue his bad luck after Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to fellow relegation strugglers Ayr.

The striker could have pulled a goal back for the Binos during the first half, but saw his shot cannon back off the post and he reckons that is a measure of their bad luck.

He added: “If I was back in that position again I’d do exactly the same thing. If you’re flying high at the top of the league that rolls in the bottom corner. It’s just the way things are going for us just now.”
