STIRLING ALBION new boy Willie Robertson believes the performance in the 2-1 defeat to Alloa on Tuesday night can help them get their league campaign right back on track.

The talented midfielder played a starring role as the Binos was again pushed their Championship local rivals all the way in a cup match for the second time this season.

Now he hopes they can translate that type of performance into results as they prepare to face Stenhousemuir at Ochilview this weekend.

Robertson told Stirling News sport: “I thought we played really well in the match and it is frustrating to lose out to two lucky breaks for their goals. To be fair Spence has anticipated well and you cannot give a goalscorer like him those sort of chances because he is scoring so regular. We have to take the positives from this defeat.

“We weren’t at the races with the loss on Saturday against Ayr but this one was a different story completely. We have come back and played well but we need to learn to take our chances. We have hit the bar twice and created a number of other opportunities.

“We didn’t go into the game thinking we were going to lose. Regardless of the league difference, we had a real go at Alloa and there wasn’t much between the sides in either game against them. We have showed that we can mix it with them and we caused them problems.

“They were hanging on a little at the end which shows they knew they had been in a game and we can take confidence from that. It is always good when you can bounce straight back from a bad performance.

“I Think we have done that despite the defeat so we must now carry that on into the Stenhousemuir game. We had to get our performance levels right first and the results will come if we play like we did in the Alloa game.” Robertson is enjoying life at Forthbank since his summer move from Alloa and he reckons the form he has shown so far is proof he made the right choice to leave Recreation Park.

He said: “It was great to see all the Alloa lads again and great to lock horns with them and I wish them all the best for the season. I am enjoying playing here so far and it hopefully I can kick on to nail down a starting berth. I made the decision to leave Alloa in the summer after a meeting with Barry Smith because I needed to be playing games and I think that has proved to be the correct one.” The 21-year-old star believes the team must now embrace their new attacking style of play if they are to flourish in League One this season and hopes he can now earn himself a regular starting berth.

Robertson added: “We have got to take the initiative in games and attack teams to play to our strengths. Our fitness levels are improving all the time and I think that is credit to the gaffer and his staff.

“I know I will have to earn the jersey to play here and that’s what I aim to do.”
