Willie Robertson says Stirling Albion were unlucky not to win their League Two clash with high-flying East Fife on Saturday.

The Binos went behind in the first half as Nathan Austin put the hosts ahead but Robertson equalised after the interval with a fine individual goal.

The midfielder felt the Binos did enough to deserve all three points from the encounter at Bayview but insisted the squad would look at the result in a positive light.

Robertson told Stirling News Sport: “I thought it was a very open game. We were the better team in the second half and could have gone on to win the game but the first half was a bit disappointing. To be honest this is a hard place to come. They are near the top of the league and when you are in the position we are in just now I think you have to look at every point as vital.

“I'm obviously delighted to score. That's me on two for the season now and hopefully I will be able to kick on from here and get a few more.”

The 22-year-old was disappointed to be shown a late red card for a second booking, and felt the first of his two yellows was a harsh decision from the referee.

He said: “One of the linesman has actually said that it was a poor decision to show me the first yellow card. I have not shown any studs but the referee said that he has only booked me because of the speed I came in at. I actually won the ball. For the second, it needed to be done because they would have scored.”

The Binos have a week off before they travel to face Clyde, and Robertson hopes they can return to action reaping the benefits of their hard work in training.

He added: “Anybody can beat anybody in this league. If we had won the last two games we would have been sitting a point off the top. We need to start picking up points and building up a bit of consistency, and if we do that hopefully we can start pushing on up the table. Our training will keep going on as normal, it will be high-intensity, and hopefully that will pay off and the boys can get a result when we go to Clyde.”
