A physiotherapist from a private hospital in Stirling has been appointed Lead Physiotherapist for the Rugby 7s event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014.

Brian King, a Physiotherapist at BMI Kings Park Hospital in Stirling, will be based at the Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow and will treat players and staff from 16 teams as well as evacuating players from the field of play in the event of serious injury.

Brian, 27, from Glasgow, said: “The chance to be involved in a huge international event like the Commonwealth Games was too good an opportunity to miss, especially when it’s right on my doorstep in Glasgow.

“I think it’s going to be a great chance to use my skills, and it will be great fun to be part of the team.” He said: “I have been involved in the medical team at the Glasgow leg of the World 7s Series for the last three years so I have experience in working with rugby teams, but I have never worked at an event as big as the Commonwealth Games.” A team of health professionals, including doctors, nurses, and other staff will join Brian to assess and treat injured players during the two day event and will oversee 45 matched in total.

Brian added: “I really enjoy the excitement and challenges of being involved in sport, particularly rugby, and I’m really excited to see the Scottish teams – hopefully they’ll bring back some medals.” Mhairi Jefferies, Executive Director at Kings Park, said: “We are really proud that Brian has been selected for the role of Lead Physiotherapist at the Games.

“It’s a testament to his commitment to sport and his profession as a physiotherapist and everyone at BMI Kings Park Hospital wish him all the best. The athletes in his care will be in a very safe pair of hands.”
