Students from the University’s snow sport club are backing Scotland’s curling World Champions at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Stirling students met local hero Eve Muirhead and her team-mate Vicki Adams – one half of the Team GB women’s curling team going for gold in Russia.

The duo took time out from their final fitness preparations at the new-look university gym to pose for pictures with members of the club.

President of the Snow Sports Club, John Armour, said: “It was an honour to meet Eve and Vicki and the whole club is right behind them for Sochi. For us, taking part in winter sports is more about the social side, but it’s amazing to see the effort and dedication professional athletes put in.

“It’s also inspiring to know they come to the university fitness centre every day and use the facilities, just like us.” Director of Sports Development at the Universirty, Peter Bilsborough, added: “We wish Eve, Vicki and the full team every success in Sochi.

“Our fitness facilities are used by elite athletes, but we are also proud to be open to the local community and run everything from children’s sport classes to yoga for new mums and social events for retired people.”  The University Fitness Centre has just undergone a £500,000 upgrade, with more rowing machines, treadmills, cross trainers and cable machines than ever before.

Each comes with state-of-the-art technology, enabling users to create and follow a personalised workout plan, all whilst browsing the internet, watching television or listening to music.
