Stirling GC Chris Lawton won the Club Strokeplay Championship on Saturday by one shot from reigning champion Allan Watson with a winning total of level par 142 with rounds of 73 and 71. First Round leader Liam Haldane scored an excellent two under opening score of 70 but faded in the afternoon with a 76 to finish tied 3rd. Chris had birdies at the 1st,7th,13th and 16th holes in the 2nd round. Playing partner Allan Watson pushed Chris all the way with a grand stand five birdies in the last six holes - an astonishing nine birdie round- for a three under par score 69. Allan’s 15 foot eagle putt at the 18th shaving the hole to win the title. David Oates was Tied 3rd with a two over par total of 146 with two rounds of 73. Ben Liddell and Blair Carnegie were Tied 5th on 148.

Four Qualifiers – Chris Lawton, Kenny Stewart (150), Alan Dryden (155), Kenny McLean (156) are unavailable for the Club Championship Matchplay stages and therefore all the 156 scores qualified. Kenny McLean took the leading handicap prize with a score of 140 on the better second round.

David Kernohan had a hole in one at the par 3 8th hole in 1st round , and wins a Hugo Boss sponsored watch. The CSS on both rounds was 71.

Saturday is Finals Day with all categories of Championship, Juniors, Ladies, Seniors and Gents.

The First Round of the Championship Final tee-off is 9.30 with the 2nd Round at 2pm. See Notice Board in Foyer for full Final listings. Please come along and support the players, see some great golf being played with the Presentation of Prizes following around 5pm.

Semi-Finals Thursday 18 June Watson V Carnegie; Haldane v Brunton Semi-Finals on Thursday and Final on Saturday with 9.30 and 14.00 tee times.

DUNBLANE NEW GC With rounds of 72/70, 142, 4 over par, Ken Wilkie was the leading qualifier for the Club Championship. Two steady rounds with a single double bogey, 6 bogeys and 4 pars in 36 holes Ken edged out Craig McGann who had rounds of 70/73, 143.

The remaining qualifiers for the Match Play are Vinny O’Holloran, Roddy Anderson, Brian Deakin, Andrew Grant, Gordon Whitelaw, David Orr, Tommy Green, Malcolm Scott, Neil Panton, Allan Cowie, Craig Jackman, Harry Barton, Neil Rankin and Jim Crawford.

Robert Cullens (17) easily lifted the Dewar Trophy for the best net score over the two qualifying rounds on 129, 64/65, 7 ahead of the rest of the field.

The First Class was won by Roddy Anderson (6) on 137, 70/67, ahead of David Orr (6) on 138, 70/68. Three players were then on 139 but in third place was Stuart McDonald (7) with 71/68 and BSR than Vinny O’Holloran, 69/70 who in turn edged out Neil Rankin on 67/72.

Vicky Knox (14) won the Second Class on 139, 66/73. Four players then returned 141 with second place going to James McIntosh (13) with BSR 71/70, ahead of Gerry Watt (13) with 70/71 and John Young (13) fourth 69/72 edging out S Rose (15) 68/73.

Stewart Sheridan (17) won the Third Class on 140, 75/65, with Ian Docherty (2) second on 141, 73/68 and Hal Mills (17) third on 145BSR, 75/70.

The qualifiers for the Kirkland Trophy, Handicap Championship, are Robert Cullens (17), Stewart Sheridan (17), Derek Wangert (10), James McIntosh (13), John Brailsford (8), John Young (13), Alan Kerr (10), Bill Begg (16), Hugh MacLennan (12), David Webster (7), Davison Steen (13), Ian Campbell (11), Graham Hally (12), Craig Anderson (7) and Jim Gardner (12).

The Match Play will be completed from Monday to Thursday this week with all finals on Saturday.

Members are reminded the Kippendavie Gents Open is on Sunday 5th July and the entry lists are available in the clubhouse.

The Club team narrowly lost their league match away to Bridge of Allan by 4.5 matches to 3.5.
