Following recent losses in the Senior National League to Troon and Falkirk, Stirling Knights men hosted Glasgow University last weekend in front of a packed crowd at The Peak.

The travelling sudents, who boast two Canadian imports, were sure to give the rebuilding Knights a tough test in their penultiamte home game of this season.

Knights started well through their own University students Gergo Jenei, Adam Hammerschmidt and Jack Burgess but some big shots from the guests enabled them to take a 23-17 first quarter lead.

With conitnued solid play at both ends Knights managed to win the second stanza to go in at halftime just 39-35 down.

A good third quarter from Glasgow and some poor execution from Stirling meant that the Knights once again faced a large deficit, although the team pulled together to win the final quarter which saw a final score of 82-69.

Top players for the Knights were Connor Rankin, continuing his good run, with 17 points with Matt Dick also adding 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.

Matt, who hopes to add to his five Scottish Senior caps this summer, showing an improved offensive game throughout whilst doing a good job of protecting the rim on defense. Team Captain Jack Burgess added three 3-pointers and some fine guard play.

For the visitors, Canadian duo John Bustin and Al Alilovic combined for 44 points.

Knights Head Coach Pete Duncan said “We performed very well in spells and we have made some adjustments to our play since we came together six months ago.

“I have seen improvement every week but we are still too inconsistent at times.

“This season has flown by and we hope the experience gained will set us up well for a good campaign next season”.

The Senior Knights last home game of the season is Friday February 21st against Glasgow Rocks.

Across the club the development and success continues.

The Under 16 boys remain undefeated and are now plotting to win the end of season playoffs which will see them promoted to division one.

The Under 14 and Under 12 boys are top of their leagues and the other youth teams, male and female, are also having great seasons.

These squads, combined with the work Knights are doing with Primary pupils will ensure a pathway to success in Basketball for years to come in the Stirling area.
