A packed Peak crowd of over 300 witnessed a thrilling game between the Knights and Glasgow Rocks on Friday night.

The Rocks, who had won the previous encounter in Glasgow, started the game as strong as the home team, matching them basket for basket ending the 1st quarter ahead by 1 point.

The second quarter saw some inspirational defence by David Hannah and Cory McCabe and the Knights pushed into the lead. A poor defensive and offensive spell by the Knights allowed the Rocks to go into half-time leading 34- 38.

A slow start to the third quarter by the Knights meant that they were trailing by 8 but again, the defence stepped up and baskets by Jack Burgess and Adam Hammershmidt brought the Knights right back into the game. Sloppy mistakes by the Rocks were capitalised by the Knights and the game was tied heading into the 4th and final quarter.

A good spell from the home team gave the Knights a lead and they never looked back, winning the game 82-74.

Top scorers were Adam Hammerschmidt on 22, with Connor Rankin, Jack Burgess and Matt Dick scoring in double figures. Stand in coach, and former Captain, Mark Duncan praised Cory McCabe who not only played excellent defence and closed down the Rocks best player but he scored a season high 12 points.

Duncan said: “Everyone on the team has to be a threat in offence and Cory proved what he can do tonight. The crowd were also fantastic”.

Mark, who is replacing brother Pete as Men’s Head Coach next season, added “The guys have worked hard and had to endure a tough season of learning but I’m hoping it will stand us in good stead for next year”.

The Knights Under 14 boys stormed their way to the National Cup Semi Final with an easy win over Highland bears 69-30.

Coach Jack Burgess has clearly had the team training well and their rotations on defence were particularly impressive. Stirling High’s Shaun Craig and Wallace High’s Lewis McGlasson showing excellent skill and desire in a dominant performance. Next up for the youngsters is an away Semi Final to rivals Falkirk Fury.

Head of Knights Pete Duncan said: “We have been developing our youth section for only 3 years and are already the second biggest in terms of registered members, to make a National Cup Semi Final at this stage is excellent progress and along with Fury we really are doing the best development work of any club in Scotland”.
