Cinema Cup

Bannockburn ...... 0

Eastfield ............. 2

AFTER last week’s magnificent seven goals Bannockburn expected tough but ultimately a successful result in the cinema cup against Eastfield. What they got was a Rocky Horror Show in places followed by some True Grit.

Weir straight from kick off bore down on goal forcing a good keeper save. A resulting run of four corners signalled Burn's intent. However Eastfield were well in the game by the ten minute mark when a snap shot needed Burn keeper David Tait to be alert.

Eastfield went one up after 14 following good approach play and slack defending. Burn’s Paul Statter had a good chance to equalise on 17. Within minutes Andy McGown received a straight red card while the stunned crowd wondered at the reason.

For the remainder of the half Burn’s keeper Tait was the busiest he’s been for Burn, making several important saves to keep his team in the game. On 21 minutes Gordon Knox delivered a powerful shot that needed saving and there were half chances at each end.

After 35 minutes an unfortunate sclaffed clearance from Allan Green gave Eastfield a chance that they converted putting them two nil up. And so it remained till half time.

The second period began with Burn pressing for a goal. Then they lost John McGregor, who saw red for another last man challenge.

Burn’s True Grit was seen for the remainder of the game. A cross-cum-shot from Derek Currie hit the bar on 65 minutes. Outside of this, the nine men of Burn expended tremendous energy keeping the 11 Eastfield players at bay with Tait contributing more quality saves.

A defeat for sure but an unbroken ‘Burn return to league business on Saturday 28 November with an away tie against Blantyre Celtic. Kick off 2pm.
