Bunrigh League Cup
Bannockburn ............................. 2
Ashvale Victoria ........................ 1
A QUARTER-FINAL place was secured in a 2:1 home victory for Bannockburn Amateurs in the Bunrigh League Cup.
It was a tale of two halves for ‘Burn who ought to have put the tie against Ashvale Victoria out of sight by half time.
Within the first ten minutes ‘Burn had peppered the opposition goal with chances including a tap-in goal for Darren Walker after great work from Statter.
On the fifteen minute mark great harrying by Walker, an inch perfect cross from Steven Knox and a free header from Chris Purdie made it two for ‘Burn.
The half continued with ‘Burn having many more chances including ones from Knox, Walker and Allan Green.
It was 44-minutes before stand in ‘Burn keeper – the legend that is Stevie “Buckie” O’Hare made his first save from a low trundling daisy-cutter shot.
Straight from the kick off ‘Burn threatened when a Green cross narrowly missed Walker’s head for a certain third.
As the half progressed Ashfield became more of a threat and Burn seemed to reduce theirs. Ashvale’s predicted score arrived in 76 minutes.
The last fifteen minutes then required ‘Burn to see the game out.
They succeeded even though subjected to increasingly foul play from some opposition players.
Both teams ended with ten men but only Bannockburn progress to the quarter-final.
