Over 500 young runners from across the region competed in the Forth Valley Schools Cross Country Event last Tuesday (10 March).

Some of the best runners from P6-S6 participated in eight races over a challenging and muddy course with medals up for grabs for the top three athletes in each race along with team prizes for the top six runners from each local authority area.

Notable performances included Ewan Blues of Braehead Primary School, who improved from 3rd in the Stirling Schools event to win the P6 boys’rsquo; race.

In the secondary races the stand out performance came from Lewis Pentecost of St Mungo’s High School, who went one better from his silver medal at the National Schools championships recently to win the S3/4 boys’ race.

Event organiser Alison Grey said: “We have been fortunate to see some fantastic races today from some superb runners from our local schools.

“Special thanks to Stirling’s provost Mike Robbins and Andrew Bain, Active Stirling chief executive, for presenting prizes and also to Queen Victoria School for hosting the event.”
