BANNOCKBURN questioned why they didn’t win Saturday's clash with the dogged Cambusnethan outfit.

As per usual it was a bright start. Burn could have been one up within 30 seconds but Michael Weir’s goal-bound shot clattered off team mate Darren Walker.

However, it was the visitors who went ahead within five minutes. A harmless free kick was half cleared and with Burn static the attacker slotted the ball home.

Spurred on by Kenny McLellan, Burn set off in search of the equaliser. Combinations of Weir, Walker, Gary Currie and David Donaldson all had chances saved or cleared off the line.

On 41 Donaldson was left unattended and he slipped through the defence to beat the goalie, levelling the scores before half time.

Burn started the second half as brightly as the first, with Allan Green put Walker through on goal only to miss.

Weir was played through next and all looked hopeful, before his first touch let him down.

Then from nothing, Cambusnethan were awarded a penalty by a referee some 40 yards behind play.

The number eight took the Ron Atkinson approach, smashing his shot straight down the middle. Despite the Burn keeper getting something on it the visitors went two one up.

Picking themselves up Steven Knox was the next Burn attempt saved by the keeper.

Next a superb passage of play secured the equaliser. Starting with Kenny McLellan's determined play and Green's interplay with Currie it ended with Walker slotting the ball home.

Moments later Burn had a good claim for their own penalty as the keeper felled Walker, though nothing was given.

Next it was Green, put through by Donaldson, but the shot went harmlessly wide, before a Knox header proved an easy save for keeper.

A visitors’ attack then produced a world-class Gordon Banks-esque save from Adam Young in the Burn goal.

Late-on, a ball played from Young through the defence, midfield and attack culminated in Walker finishing his own chance rebounded off the post.

However, Cambusnethan went up and equalised at the death, to secure the 3-3 draw.

Next week Burn are away to East Kilbride 2pm kick off. Thanks is given to the Tartan Arms for their after match hospitality enjoyed by both teams.
