Bannockburn Boxing Club plans to offer a knockout service to attract new members, with the support of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust who awarded them £2,000 to buy new equipment.

Scottish Trustee Bob Young presented the award, which came from the CRT’s Coalfields Community Investment Programme, to club president Jimmy Pearson.

Bob said: “We are happy to support this venture which will help young people adopt healthy and disciplined lifestyles, with all the benefits that brings to the local community.”

Bannockburn Boxing Club meet in a hall at the Corbiewood Trotting Stadium and have around 15 members, including girls. Their members are aged six to 24, although they are not allowed to box till they are 11-years-old.

Jimmy said: “We really appreciate the support of the CRT to help us buy training equipment like punch bags, headgear and gloves as well as vests and shorts in our club colours.

“We hope the additional equipment will help us attract new members and in the long term we would like to lease some ground and build our own clubhouse in Bannockburn itself."
