Three-time European Tour winner Mikael Lundberg took the individual title at the inaugural Gleneagles International Pro-Am.

Swedish-born Lundberg narrowly beat fellow professional Chris Kelly to the prize, after shooting 2-over through 54 holes.

Runner-up Kelly, who hopes to defend his Scottish PGA Championship title at the 100th staging of the event at Gleneagles in October, finished two shots behind Lundberg at 4-over.

Professional golfer and former British Amateur Champion Heather MacRae, from nearby Dunblane, led her squad to victory in the best two stableford score team competition, with Team MacRae finishing on 9-under par with a score of 225 points over the three days.

The end of the tournament was marked by a special gala dinner and prizegiving at The Gleneagles Hotel, where amateur winners were also recognised with nearest the pin and longest drive spot prizes.

Gleneagles’ director of golf, Gary Silcock, said: “It’s been a fantastic tournament, with a great international turnout – including teams from as far afield as New Zealand – and a superb atmosphere throughout.

“The three courses were in top condition, giving our players a thoroughly enjoyable competition experience and providing plenty of challenges for the pros and amateurs alike.”

Liam Greasley, PGA director of regions added: “The PGA has a long and successful relationship with Gleneagles and we’ve been delighted to support what has been a fantastic inaugural Pro-Am tournament.

“This Pro-Am is a fabulous opportunity to experience some of the finest golf and hospitality Scotland has to offer and we look forward to the event growing in stature in the future.”

The second Gleneagles International Pro-Am will be hosted in July 2017. Those interested in participating can contact Alison Goodwin for more information on 01764 69 4424 or at alison.goodwin@gleneagles.com
