STIRLING Ski ace Ciorstaidh Struthers clinched the Under 16s title Scottish National Indoor Alpine title last weekend.

It was perfect snow conditions to greet the 200 strong field of nationally registered racers as Snow Factor Braehead hosted the third round of the Ambition GBR Indoor Series and the Scottish Indoor Alpine Championships.

Eleven members of Snow Factor Racing (SFR) took full advantage of competing on home snow, notably 15-year-old Ciorstaidh Struthers (Stirling High School) who skied off with the U-16 Scottish Indoor Alpine Championship title.

With a combined time of 31.80 seconds, the talented Snow Factor Racing (SFR) slalom specialist also finished 3rd in her age group and 9th overall in the 44 strong ladies category of the Ambition GBR Indoor Series on the Saturday.

And proving that age is no barrier to success, Stuart Gillies, a coach with Snow Factor Racing (SFR) took third place in the Masters category at the Scottish Indoor Alpine Championship.

In addition to competitors from Snow Factor Braehead, Scottish clubs included Blairgowrie (Perthshire), Gordon Skiers (Aberdeenshire), Glencoe, LSRA (Edinburgh) and Scottish Ski Club.

Age group categories also attracted racers from as far afield as Ireland, Wales (Cardiff) and talent from English clubs in Gloucester, London, Kendal, Hemel Hempstead and Manchester.

Andrew Binnie, Slope Manager for Snow Factor Braehead, commented: “It’s terrific for our young Snow Factor Racing team to have the chance to compete against a strong pool of racers from across Scotland and further afield.

"Our skiers really benefit from the opportunity to practice and race throughout the year on real snow and the weekend has shown how much talented, determined skiers like Ciorstaidh Struthers are progressing.

"Many congratulations to Ciorstaidh who skied superbly to win the U-16 Scottish Indoor Alpine title and to Stuart Gillies, a Snow Factor Racing coach who finished third in the Masters category.”

“There are further Ambition GBR races over the summer and it’s all great preparation for the autumn and winter season ahead.”
