STIRLING ALBION new boy Blair Henderson is aiming high following his arrival at Forthbank from fellow League Two side Berwick Rangers.

The striker has penned a two-year deal with the Binos and revealed that he felt the move was too good an opportunity to turn down.

Now he has his sights firmly set on winning promotion from League Two and says his new side are well-equipped to launch a serious title bid, writes Jamie Hall.

Henderson told Stirling News Sport: “I had five or six offers from other clubs and once I decided that I was leaving Berwick I narrowed it down to Stirling and another club. I went up to speak to the manager and Martyn Corrigan and that was a big factor in my decision to come here. There are some big things this season that I want to be pushing for, preferably winning the league but at least getting into the playoffs. I want to be playing for something and I think Stirling are in a good place to do that. The title is obviously our aim, and that’s why I’m coming here.

“Berwick did things the right way. They could have been a lot more difficult to deal with but as soon as I said I was wanting to go to Stirling they were alright with that. After that it was just about agreeing a deal. We agreed the personal terms within two or three days. It all added up for me. It was a good deal which I couldn’t really turn down, and it gives me the chance to go and do something this season in terms of winning the league.”

The 21-year-old admitted he was leaving Berwick with a heavy heart after the club offered him a route back into the senior game, but he believes moving on will give him the chance to go on and play at a higher level.

He said: “Leaving Berwick was nothing to do with the coaching staff or anything like that. They treated me really well, and they gave me a chance to get back into senior football which I really needed. It gave me a platform and I was able to get 24 goals in 46 games for them. I had the happiest time of my career so far there so it was a difficult decision to leave, but I think it will benefit me in the long term.

“Every player in the world wants to play at the highest level they can. For me, I’m hoping that can be at Stirling. Hopefully we will get promoted. If I score another 20 goals, which I am hoping to do, there is no reason why I can’t go on and compete at a higher level.”

The former Dunfermline man scored 18 goals despite playing in a Berwick side which struggled for much of last season, and he says the Albion fans can expect him to continue finding the back of the net at Forthbank.

Henderson added: “My game is all about scoring goals first and foremost. My target is always a goal every two games. If I can keep up what I did in the second half of last season I think I can improve my record.

“People think I am a target man because I am tall and strong but that’s not really my game. I like the ball into feet and linking up with the midfielders.”
